Citizen Photojournalist who captures the world we live in using digital photography and shares those images on the Internet. Remember, Photography is Not a Crime!!!
We have covered numerous events of interest to the public including Presidential and foreign dignitary visits, meetings, political rallys and elections. During Hurricanes Katrina & Rita in New Orleans we were one of the few who had complete access to the City and documented the worst disaster to ever strike the USA. (View our album of some of the images taken). Since moving to KY we have photographed numerous community events, fires, protests and rallies, the ice storm of 2008, Wind Storm in 2009 and numerous other news events.
Ghost Images Photography offers three types of photographic services :

Many are printed in limited numbers, numbered and signed by the photographer and provided with a Certificate of Authenticity.

- Photo of the Week - 2011
During the New Year's weekend I came up with the idea to post a Photo of the Day during 2011. After I slept on it and sobered up I realized that I should make a more reasonable goal, such as a Photo of the Week. Everyone makes New Year Resolutions so this is one of mine. This is a more obtainable and realistic goal . I hope that you like what you see and will visit often throughout the year. If you are not already my friend on Facebook, let me know.

- Ducks Unlimited
Ducks Unlimited once again met at the AEP's I&M Rockport Plant to count and band Geese. Though the weather was not as nice as they would have liked it did clear so they could complete their task. Two Agents with the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources lead the group in containing the geese so those already banded could be counted and those not banded could have their numbered metal bands applied to one of their ankles. This year approx. 16 geese had been previously tagged and 70+ new ones were sexed, identified and banded.
I learned that for approximately two weeks each year, usually in June these waterfowl lose some feathers and are unable to fly. These are called their flight feathers. It is during this time that this roundup happens. Many of these birds have already grown back their flight feathers and were able to fly and escape the process. According to the DNR Agent, more than 120,000 new geese are born each year and the average life expectancy can be 15+ years, unless attacked by predators or killed by hunters, most do not die of old age.

- Worker's Memorial Day
Each year on April 28, Workers Memorial Day, working people throughout the world remember those who were hurt or killed on the job and renew our struggle for safe workplaces. In town squares and union halls, at worksites and memorials, in community after community—we are gathering to remember our brothers and sisters who have lost their lives and to fight for safe workplaces and for good jobs for all workers.
This year is especially noteworthy. It’s the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire, where 146 workers were killed after being trapped behind locked doors with no way to escape. This year is also the 40th anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the right of workers to a safe job.
Workplace fatalities and injuries have significantly declined. This progress didn’t just happen because the OSHA law and mine safety law were passed. It happened because workers and their unions organized, fought and demanded action from employers and their government.
Join us in mourning the dead and fighting for the living.

- Red Cross “THE HEROES” Awards Banquet
“THE HEROES” AWARDS BANQUET
Thursday, April 14th 6:30 p.m.– 9:00 p.m.
Casino Aztar Conference Center, Walnut Room
Show the community you have the mojo to help be a hero for the American red Cross. It’s during that time, the money you can help raise — part of the 2011 Heroes Campaign — can
become the blankets wrapped around a family, the blood that goes into the body of a person who needed it most, or the training one receives to save another’s life. Every dollar raised during the 2011 Heroes Campaign helps to change lives — won’t you consider helping the Red Cross?
- GLBT Prom: The Butch Ball
The 10th annual Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgendered Spring dance was held at the Holiday Inn Express near the Evansville, IN Regional Airport and open to everyone (No Age Restriction). - Louisville Zoo
The temperature was in the mid 40's and many of the animals were not on display or inside. This Zoo is definitely worth another visit during warmer weather. Be aware that it has lot's of hills so there is more walking than what I am accustomed to. A new exhibit opening in April will include Polar Bears and Seals. A few were on display during my visit.
- Churchill Downs Race Track
Famous Churchill Downs Race Track home of the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports, the Kentucky Derby. I had the pleasure of taking a Behind the Scene Tour which visited Millionaire's Row, the Press Box and Track Announcer's Booth.

- MRC & CRI Training Workshop
Medical Reserve Corps / Cities Readiness Initiative Training Workshop - On March 19, 2011 the Kentucky Department for Public Health offered a free work-shop to provide training for volunteers who are interested in offering assistance during public health emergencies. The purpose of this event is to improve the region’s emergency response capabilities by strengthening our capacity to provide services to people.
This was an opportunity for everyone to be involved and active in the preparations and the programs that serve the people of this community and region. The workshop was for the Medical Reserve Corps, and was open to anyone above the age of 18 who is interested in helping. Everyone was invited and welcome, and encouraged to attend regardless of whether or not they have any experience in medical or healthcare professions.
Workshop attendees experienced informative and educational morning sessions, and afternoon activities provided opportunities to practice and apply the knowledge they gained.
The workshop included: Orientation and training for the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) An introduction to the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) Opportunities to set up and practice operating two different types of Points of Dispensing (PODs). An opportunity to set up and practice Functional Needs Support Services (FNSS)
One of the key public health response challenges in Kentucky is to swiftly and completely provide critical interventions during emergencies. Programs like the Medical Reserve Corps help to significantly reduce the suffering that would typically be associated with a public health emergency or a catastrophic event. Volunteers are an absolute requirement for ensuring the success of these programs.
We explained some strategies and methods that are used to integrate and coordinate emergency management efforts, and provided guidance and tools for volunteers to use to help us meet the needs of our fellow citizens. Attendees who currently are not members of the Medical Reserve Corps will have the opportunity to join.
Learn how you can help during natural disasters like the ice storms of 2009. Find out how you can lend a hand during health emergencies such as last year’s H1N1 pandemic flu immunization campaign. Discover how you can assist your friends and neighbors in the event of a terrorist attack. Complete the required training to join the Medical Reserve Corps, all in one day!

Fancy Farm picnic on C-Span = http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2010/08/07/HP/A/36721/Candidates+Rand+Paul+R+and+Jack+Conway+D+Speak+at+the+Fancy+Farm+Picnic+in+Kentucky.aspx
The following article was written By Julie Sobel of http://hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com
The 130th Fancy Farm picnic, the traditional kick-off to Kentucky's political season, is taking place this weekend - and with the high-profile Senate race, the event has attracted national attention and was broadcast live on C-SPAN and covered by CNN for the first time.
Gov. Steve Beshear (D) kicked off the political speaking program with the charged partisan rhetoric the event is known for. Beshear fired up the crowd, declaring that no one knew where Rand Paul actually stood on anything until the primary was over, when he "escaped his handlers" a couple of times and actually told KY where he stood on these issues - - "and it scared the belivin' out of us all."
Jack Conway's comment from last year's Fancy Farm, "I'm one tough son of a bitch," were far from forgotten, with several speakers referencing them. And the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee released a Web video Saturday reminding voters about his salty language at a "Kentucky church picnic."
"Normally I detest more regulation - but we're on a 7-second delay for Jack Conway's speech," said Senate Min. Leader Mitch McConnell (R), adding that they're going to keep things "PG" this year.
"When you stand with Obama and Pelosi, you don't stand with Kentucky," McConnell said, tying Conway to the unpopular Democratic leadership in Washington, but leaving out his Senate counterpart, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).
Conway, for his part talked about accountability, and "my opponent's record of holding no one accountable, least of all himself."
Conway got the Dems in the crowd chanting "accidents happen," in reference to Paul's remark that "accidents happen" regarding the BP oil spill.
Conway: "And what did Mitch McConnell say to the Republican National Committee the morning after the primary? Crowd: "Accidents happen!"
"It's not about me," said Conway of the election. "It's not about a waffling pessimist who just wants to be the king of cable TV."
Rand Paul (R) opened by talking about the U.S tax code, which he called too heavy for him to bring up on stage.
Paul didn't miss a chance to tie Conway to Washington. "I say to Nancy Pelosi come on down, you can campaign with Jack, you can talk about cap and trade and Obamacare all you want," said Paul. "Good luck with that one, Jack."
Paul also referenced Conway's gaffe from the year before. "There's six more words you won't hear Jack say," this year, said Paul. "President Obama. Nancy Pelosi. Harry Reid."
The best signs visible in the crowd: "Crack open the tea party - they have too many NUTS" and "Rand Paul's Waffle House: Flippin' positions 24/7."

- KY Freedom Festival
KY Commonwealth Capitol to Host Statewide Grassroots Celebration
About: The greatest grassroots gathering that the Commonwealth of Kentucky has ever seen. Buses are being chartered already from both the Louisville and Cincinnati areas. The collaboration across organizations has been what you might expect from like-minded “We the People” types: smooth, eager and focused on educating, motivating and mobilizing conservative Kentuckians to have a powerful voice in determining the direction of America. We converged on the epicenter of the political landscape in KY: The “Great Lawn” at the Capitol, in Frankfort, from 5pm-8pm. In the heart of of summer, we’ll have ample cold water available at a nominal cost. But do bring your own lawn chair!
Speakers: This is not a “candidate’s forum,” though your conservative candidates for both the US Senate and US Congress are slated to speak. We DO want you to get to know them better and help them take your concerns to Washington to help move our federal government toward the Constitution. This is instead a celebration of FREEDOM and those ingredients that made America great and can restore her to greatness once again. To that end, a number of grassroots speakers have been invited and will speak on topics such as Immigration Reform, Healthcare, Education, Energy Independence, Terrorism, the Founders and the Constitution itself. Those confirmed to speak (to date) include:
KEYNOTE SPEAKER AND SPECIAL GUEST: KEVIN JACKSON
Leland Conway of Lexington’s AM 630, WLAP
Kent Masterson Brown, Attorney & Historian
Brian Goettl, of Conservative Edge
Jerry Stephenson, of the KY Education Restoration Alliance
Bobby Alexander, Sgt. Major (Ret), Central Kentucky Tea Party Patriots (invited)
Dan Blanchard, President, Louisville Tea Party
Jim Waters, of the Bluegrass Institute
Joyce Mucci, of the Federation for American Immigration Reform
Dr. Rand Paul, Conservative Candidate for US Senate
Andy Barr, Conservative Candidate for US Congress, 6th District
Todd Lally, Conservative Candidate for US Congress, 3rd District

After leaving New Orleans almost 2 1/2 years ago I decided to go back for a visit and reality check, it was long overdue. I was there for four (4) days and spent the majority of my time taking photographs, eating, visiting with old friends and eating at some of my favorite restaurants. Which included New Orleans Food and Spirits (Fried Shrimp), Five Happiness (Chinese), Salvo's (Boiled Crawfish), Cafe Maspero (Corned Beef sandwich & Strawberry Daiquiris) and Short Stop PoBpys (Roast Beef Po-Boy). A visit to New Orleans would not be complete without Beignets at Cafe DuMonde in the French Quarter. - Nashville Water Main Leak
DISASTER IN DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE -
Four water mains broke early Saturday morning, sending water onto the street and forcing the closure of downtown roads.
Officials said a 36-inch water pipe broke on 2nd Avenue, as well as two 24-inch pipes on Broadway. Water quickly turned to ice as it poured onto the street in sub-freezing temperatures.
Metro Water Services discovered the breaks around 4:30 a.m. Crews closed Broadway from 4th Avenue to 1st Avenue – and 2nd Avenue from Demonbreun to Commerce Road.
Five crews were on scene working 12-hour shifts to make repairs. Officials expect repairs to take 24 to 48 hours. Roads may reopen sooner once crews discover the exact location of the breaks.
Officials blamed the breaks on the cold weather.
Several businesses were damaged as crews worked to find the source of the breaks – including two popular downtown restaurants, Joe's Crab Shack and Hard Rock Café. Joe's Crab Shack was forced to close for the day. Hard Rock was opened.
Several downtown events were scheduled for downtown Saturday night.

- Big E Implosion
"Big Pile of Bricks" Music courtesy of Heath Eric - www.heatheric.com
Advanced Explosives Demolition Inc. set off charges at 9 a.m., causing the Executive Inn Rivermont's seven-story central tower to implode. City officials expected about 7,000 spectators and a television crew from The Learning Channel to witness the 15-second collapse.
The west wing and convention center on the hotel's east side are being torn down mechanically, and work has begun there. Advanced Explosives and its owners, Eric and Lisa Kelly, are the focus of "The Imploders," a new TLC program. The network is filming the colorful family and its unusual work, said Donny McGuire, production manager on the show. Advanced Explosives, Denny and TLC are splitting the additional $120,000 cost of the implosion, city officials said. The explosives company will set off small "linear-shaped charges" with "just enough power to cut the steel beams," Parrish said, which will cause the hotel tower to collapse in on itself.
The Coast Guard reported that 80+ boats watched from the Ohio River side of the hotel in boats. The U.S. Coast Guard and Owensboro and Daviess County fire departments patrolled the river to keep boaters out of the danger zone.

- Ice Storm
Heavy snowfall expected Monday night and Tuesday morning failed to materialize, but ice and sleet took its place, causing slippery streets and power outages throughout Owensboro and Daviess County.
A steady rain coupled with sub-freezing temperatures made matters worse, leading to increasing reports of power outages and road blockages when trees and power lines buckled under the strain.
Gov. Steve Beshear declared a state of emergency for the state.
As of Tuesday evening, Kenergy said at least 27,884 customers were without power, but those numbers likely rose throughout the evening as the weight of ice brought down more tree limbs. Of those 27,884, 10,623 were in Daviess County, 1,594 in Ohio County, 1,989 in McLean County and 2,910 in Hancock County.
The governor of Kentucky has called up his entire Army National Guard and some of the Air Guard to help deal with the effects of a deadly ice storm.
The addition of 3,000 soldiers and airmen makes 4,600 Guardsmen pressed into service in what is the largest call-up in Kentucky history. Gov. Steve Beshear calls it an appropriate response.
Altogether, well over a million customers lost power in the widespread storm and about a-half million are still without it, most of them in Kentucky.
Finding heating oil along with gas for cars and generators is another struggle for those trying to tough it out at home. Hospitals and other essential services get priority over members of the public.
Many people in rural areas can't even get out of their driveways due to debris and have no phone service.
Gov. Beshear says he's concerned about the lives and safety of those who are homebound. He says troops will be going door-to-door to make sure people are OK.
Three weeks after the storm many people are still without electricity as the clean-up continues.

Battlefield History -
Brigadier General Thomas L. Crittenden moved command of the Fifth Division of the Army of the Ohio to a position above the Lock and Dam #2 on the Green River at Calhoun in November 1861. This was to counter Confederate troop movement sixty miles east in Bowling Green, Kentucky's Confederate State Capital. Crittenden's troop strength included two regiments from Daviess County, a regiment from Hartford along with the 25th and 11th Kentucky Infantry, and the troops from the 31st, 42nd, 43rd and 44th Indiana Infantry. Through the heart of McLean County ran a ribbon of water that was the dividing line of a county, the Commonwealth, and of brothers.
