2011 Nat'l Level Exercise - The United States Public Health Services mission is called: Operation Foothold - The National Level Exercise is called : Operation Shakeout. The activity is a collaborative effort between the US Public Health Service Rapid Deployment Team (including Dr. Margo Riggs who is stationed in KY) and the KY Department for Public Health (including Dr. John Poe, the state public health veterinarian). The exercise planning committee extended invitations to KY Emergency Management and KY Department of Agriculture, as they are the lead agencies for pet sheltering. Participation with this exercise will provide the Rapid Deployment Team full-scale training in pet sheltering and aid the Green River District in the development of local pet sheltering plans. The GRDMRC volunteers will serve potentially in 3 roles: as owners of the pets; assist in the shelter with housing, feeding, walking; and patients in the Federal Medical Station. Also they will be setting up and tearing down the overall mock shelter. Situational card will be pre-sent to volunteers for their review.
